(PMU) Permanent Makeup Care

For those who are considering having permanent makeup done and what to expect during the healing process, It is very important you understand the entire process!  Please take the time to read all about permanent makeup care before making your final decision.  Permanent makeup is an art, not a science; results vary depending on skin type, and skin undertones. To achieve extremely good results, you must follow a meticulous aftercare regimen.

Before any permanent makeup procedure.

  • No use of alcohol, salt/sodium, aspirin, aspirin-containing medications, ibuprofen, fish oil or other blood-thinning medications for 3-7 days prior to your procedure. Doctor prescribed medication should never be discontinued without first consulting your physician.
  • No use of judgment-altering drugs for at least 24 hours prior to any procedure.
  • No sunburn.
  • No working out before your procedure. (day before and same day)
  • No facials or waxing, starting 7 days prior to your procedure.
  • No chemical peels, laser treatments in the past 60 days.
  • No retinol/botox/fillers in the past 4 weeks and for 4 weeks after the procedure.
STOP tweezing or waxing 2 WEEKS prior to your initial procedure.

STOP eyebrow tinting no later than 48 hours before, and DO NOT resume for two weeks after the procedure.

No lash extensions, lash growth products in the past 4 weeks.

STOP if using any type of lash or brow growth serum, (such as latisse), a minimum of 4 weeks prior to your procedure appointment. THIS IS A MUST!

Make sure not to have dry/cracked/chapped lips. Please use chapstick 2 weeks prior for moisturization.

No outbreaks. If you have a history of outbreaks, please start antiviral medication 3 days prior to your procedure.

After any permanent makeup procedure.

Meticulous aftercare regimen means respecting and keeping up with each instruction and/or routine given after the treatment. Permanent Makeup DOES fade over time! The duration depends on multiple factors:

  • Your immune system
  • Age
  • Aftercare
  • Technique
  • Sun Exposure
  • Medications (ex. thyroid, anxiety medications)
  • Gym activity, any excess sweating

Day of Procedure:

  • Wash with gentle soap in evening and following morning to remove lymphatic drainage.
  • Do not rub, peel, or pick the area.

AVOID:

  • Picking at them: this could cause scarring and additional pigment loss. They will itch during the healing process and appear uneven due to swelling.
  • Facials, botox, chemical treatments for at least 4 weeks.
  • Working out for at least 10 days. (sweating)
  • Direct sun exposure for the following 3 weeks. Wear a hat for the first 2 weeks, then apply sunscreen.
  • Long hot showers and steam for the first 10 days.
  • When showering tilt head back, avoiding water directly on face. Pat dry; do not rub.
  • Swimming.
  • Makeup over the treated area for 2 weeks.
  • You WILL itch during the healing process which can/will lead to swelling.

Days 1-10:

Make sure your hands are clean and use your fingertips; pat dry with a paper towel and apply a very small amount of coconut oil 2 to 3 times a day. (make sure you don’t over apply as this will cause additional pigment loss).

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Day 1:

Brows will appear slightly thicker than we drew them and sometimes may appear uneven because they may be swollen; color looks darker and warmer due to the redness of the skin. Swelling may last anywhere from 10-20 days.

Days 2-4:

Brows are darker than what you’ve expected, and about 2 shades darker than what they will actually be once healed. Some redness may still persist on some clients.

Days 6-10:

Brows normally start peeling around day 5-6. Some clients slightly peel, while others may experience some scabbing. Once they start flaking, some areas of the eyebrows will fade more than others and as the pigment oxidizes it will start to darken up again over a 3-4-week period.

Days 28-40:

  • At this time, you’ll actually start seeing the final result.
  • Brows may look very uneven and patchy during the peeling stages.
  • It varies from client to client but we CANNOT do a touch up any sooner than 6-8 weeks, as they’re still healing.

People that heal quickly and young clients can see their final color by the 4-5-week mark, while adult women and people that heal slower will have to wait until week 6-7 to see the final color. We have no control over your body healing process, so please, be patient!

  • Keep the area CLEAN; gently washing your face, without rubbing on eyes.

  • Try to sleep on your back to avoid rubbing your face on the pillow.

  • No makeup for the following week.

  • Do not pick the scabs, let them naturally exfoliate.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for the following 3 weeks.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

I never overwork on eyes; these are super sensitive, and the eye tissue is very thin.  If your eyes start bleeding or become swollen I prefer to complete the work in multiple sessions.  Try to sleep in an elevated position to help reduce swelling at night.

  • Days 1-3: You may experience puffy eyes, heavy lids. You may ice 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off.

  • Days 4-6:  Some scabbing may occur; keep the area clean and no makeup on your eyes until completely peeled.

Eyes usually heal within 1 week.

Day 1: Dab throughout the day with a clean-x or tissue.

Day 3: Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor. (Apply 2-3 times a day)

AVOID:

  • Spicy food right after your procedure.

  • Direct sun exposure for the following 3 weeks.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Be prepared for bright colored lips as well as some swelling. The fuller the natural lip the more swelling occurs. Lips do not look nice while healing!  If you are not prepared to put up with how they look in the healing process do not have them done.

  • Days 1-2: Lips may be swollen and the color is very bright.

  • Days 3-6: The lips will go dry and flaky!  Be patient, because lips heal relatively quickly.  You may have 4 to 7 days of them looking hideous but the healed result is so worth it!
